Korean street food / 한국 분식 — Korea's iconic street snack; the modern gochujang version is widely credited to Seoul's Sindang-dong district in the 1950s and is now a staple of bunsik (snack) shops nationwide.

If the rice cakes are firm or refrigerated, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes so they cook up soft.
In a wide pan, whisk the gochujang, chili flakes, sugar and soy sauce into the water and bring to a boil.
Add the rice cakes and fish cakes, then simmer, stirring often so nothing sticks to the bottom.
Keep cooking 8–10 minutes until the sauce thickens and glosses the rice cakes.
Toss through sliced green onion and serve hot.
